Welcome to Department of Zoology
                                         The Department of Zoology of Indira Gandhi Government College, Tezu was established in July 2014 with one faculty and 35 numbers of students. The Department offers three years B.Sc program in Zoology. The semester system/ pattern of course were adopted since the establishment of the course till 2020. Since July’2021, the college and also the department have adopted the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) as introduced by Rajiv Gandhi University in all the colleges of the state under its affiliation.
The Department aims to promote quality education in various thrust areas that includes Taxonomy and Biosystematics, Animal Physiology, Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, Cytogenetics, Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation etc for the B.Sc students.
Apart from the academic activities, the Department also organizes departmental power point presentations by the students of all semesters to develop their understanding of the subject matters. The students are also encouraged to participate in quiz competitions, painting competitions, poster making competitions etc during the various occasions as National Science Day, Wildlife Day etc that would help develop scientific temperament among the students. The students are also taken for field trips to National Parks, Biosphere reserves as part of their practical assignments.
Six batches of students have graduated from the department since 2016-17 till 2021-2022.
Presently, the department has 29 numbers of students in the VIth semester, 33 students in IVth semester and 41 numbers of students in 2nd semester.
