Department of Geography at Indira Gandhi Government College, Tezu started its journey on July 1992 with 1 (one) lecturer and 10 students in BA – 1st Year (Pass Course) Dr. Narendra Pandey (Expired in January 2019, after retirement) was the 1st lecturer of the department. In 1996 honours in Geography also started Geography. Geography always remained one of the most popular subjects in the College. Almost every year few of the students secure stands in University Top Ten position in Geography. In the year 2005-06, 9 (Nine) student’s of this department secured position in University top ten in Geography and this record is yet to broken by any colleges of Arunachal Pradesh.
