Overview of English Department
English being the medium of instruction, the Department of English came into function since the inception of the College in the year 1986. The department of English is one of the oldest departments and has continuously strived to attain a better standard of academic excellence and results since 2nd October 1986 when the College came into emergence.
The Department of English followsthe Curriculum prescribed by the Rajiv Gandhi University Curricula and has introduced NEP 2020 in the Academic session 2023- 24.The Departmentoffers range of courses in under graduate level and the coursesintend to develop the skills of reading, speaking, critical thinking and effective writing.English as a core subject, there is a balance of literature and language content in the curriculum. The core elements have been prescribedacross the semesters to equip the students withhistorical,political, social and cultural context of English Literature, American Literature, European Literature, Indian Writing in English and Translations and New Literature across genres. Besides, the objective of department is to acquaint students with contemporary trend in English literature and Language and develop soft skill among learners so that they can solve problems effectively and adopt practical measures.
At present during the session 2023-24 the department has a student strength of 1286 in B A I Semester (AECC); 178 in B A ISemester (Major); 155 in B A III Semester (Major)and 101 students in B A V Semester.
The department is running with Six dedicated and well experienced faculties to realize the academic excellence of the department in particular and the college at large.
