Since the Adverse of Indira Gandhi Government College, Tezu on 2nd Oct 1986, English being the medium of instruction, the Department of English came into having simultaneously and since then it has been functioning as the leading department till date. 

At present the department is well equipped with a group of five(5) well qualified  and experienced faculty members of whom two are Ph.D holders and the rest three are M.Phil with NET/SLET. 

The Department is headed by Dr. M.D. Singh Associate Professor who has put in more than 26 years of service supported by Assistant Professor Dr. Tunge Lollen, Shri Nongja Singpho, Miss Mikta Mansai and Miss Dorangshi Kri. 
 

At present during the session 2019(Jan – June) the department has a student strength of 889 in B.A IV sem Compl. Eng, 130 in B.A II Sem El. Eng, 130 in B.A IV Sem Skill Based English and 24 in VI Sem English Major. Every year the pass percentage on an average is more than ninety nine percentage(99%).
