Keeping in view the need of the students passing out their class XII examination from different higher secondary schools of Easter Arunachal Pradesh, department of higher education of the state decided to open Economics subject in IGG College, Tezu in the year 1986. The basic objective behind opening this subject in the college is that as this is the oldest higher education institute in the Eastern part of the state, passed schools of this zone had to pursue as subject either in J.N.C Pasighat or D.N.G.C, Itanagar and since, most of the families could not send their children to either of these two institution due to financial constraint, despite a deep willingness they were deprived of it.

Therefore, in order to cater the needs of the students and to fill the gap of demand and supply of manpower with background of Economics, the department is functioning with full dedication since its inception.
