With 38 students and one faculty member, the Department of Commerce was established in the College during the Academic Session 2004-05 with B. Com. Course. The B. Com. Honours Course was started during the very next Academic Session 2005-06. Indira Gandhi Government College is the third college in Arunachal Pradesh in which the Commerce Stream was introduced.

Ever since the Department was introduced, the Department has been exhibiting spectacular results. So far the students secured 55 University Top-10 positions and 04 University Gold Medals and Hon’ble Governor’s Cash Awards.

The Department regularly conducts a Government Approved “Certification Course in Office Management” and also organizes various motivational and awareness programmes. It also screens a motivational movie in every academic session. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission(SBM), the students undertake cleanliness sessions regularly.

At present the Department is functioning with six faculty members.
