Indira Gandhi Govt. College, Tezu, established on 2nd October 1986, has been a model centre of higher learning and research in the eastern region of Arunachal Pradesh. Being a unique initiative in field of higher education, this institution aims to emerge as a vital educational hub devoted to both qualitative teaching and state-of-the-art research. In recognition to its multi-dimensional potentialities as well as academic achievements, NAAC has accredited our college with B+ grade in 2006 (Cycle-I) and B++ grade in 2016 (Cycle-II).
The college is recognised by UGC, New Delhi and affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh, Itanagar. It offers 3years undergraduate programmes (consisting of six semesters) in Arts, Commerce and Science in an intellectually vibrant as well as liberal, lively and competitive academic environment. Apart from classroom teaching, the college builds student skills in areas like scientific inquiry, problem-solving, analytical and communication skills, and workshop as well as seminar practices.
Initially the college started functioning in the building of the District Industries Centre (DIC) with only Humanities courses (Pass course) in 1986. It also started with 42 students and eight faculty members in five departments (Bachelors of Arts). The College was later shifted to an abandoned building of Navodaya Vidyalaya and finally to the present permanent site of 200 acres in 1995. It has been duly recognised by the UGC under section 2(F) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act. The college is permanently affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills Itanagar. Over the years the College experienced significant expansion both in terms of quality and quantity amidst formidable challenges in terms of infrastructural constraints. The Commerce stream was introduced in 2004. The Department of Education was introduced during the Session 2007-08. The Science stream was made effective from the session 2014-15, and presently all the major subjects are available to the students in all streams.
This institution is fortunate to have a dedicated and well-qualified academic faculty which has been consistently fine-tuning the intellectual potential of brilliant students to bring laurels and achieve new heights of academic excellence. Ultimately the college is striving to equip and train the young minds with apposite intellectual and moral matrix for exploring and realizing their full potential to face the challenges of the new millennium.
Significantly, the college provides a novel academic experience with unique combination of creativity, teaching-learning, professionalism and discipline. Over the years, the College with all its glorious academic achievements and constant scholastic pursuits has already created a distinct niche for itself in Arunachal Pradesh and beyond.

Our GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
While imparting quality higher education, the college adheres to the following major goals and objectives:
To aid the students to develop an understanding of our national heritage and national goals;
To inculcate among students scientific outlook and respect for physical labour, ideals of democracy, patriotism and peace;
